East Neuk Beach Craft
The beautiful beaches of Anstruther and the East Neuk are a constant source of inspiration in creating my little seaside collages and coastal scenes. I love to wander the beaches looking for the beautiful green sea glass, driftwood, old bits of boats and fishing creels but most of all the fascinating antique sea pottery that washes up along our coastline from the historic ceramic factories that used to dominate Kirkcaldy. Much of this pottery dates back over 100 years and washes up with lovely smoothed edges but the beautiful patterns are still vibrant and intact. Using the natural shapes of the pottery, I create framed pictures and driftwood collages of seaside scenes, featuring puffins, seagulls, boats, whales, lighthouses and the little colourful cottages of the East Neuk. I also use the antique pottery and sea glass to create pendants with wire wrapped swirls, spirals and hearts. Because I use these natural sea-worn materials, every piece that I create is entirely unique, and all are made in Cellardyke from the natural resources of Anstruther, Cellardyke and the East Neuk of Fife.
