The coast and hinterland of this small eastern corner of Fife is a veritable treasure trove … almost every published list of the best places in Britain to live, work, visit, walk, relax or eat embraces the East Neuk, with its wonderful scenery, fantastic wildlife and great places to eat, drink and stay.
For two weekends this summer, you can add an amazing art trail to those lists.
- The East Neuk arts and crafts treasure trail runs from Kingsbarns to Lower Largo, via the picturesque fishing villages of Crail, Cellardyke, Anstruther, Pittenweem and St Monans, for two weekends – 22nd/23rd and 29th/30th June.
- Artists’ Studios will be open from 10.30am until 5pm each day.
- Over fifty local artists are taking part, exhibiting a wide range of arts, crafts, design and photography.
The East Neuk Open Studios’ printed brochure lists all the artists and their locations, with QR links to lots more information about exhibiting artists on the organisation’s website, including specially designed guide pages for the art trail that feature online maps showing the location of each artist, along with links to their web pages and social media feeds. Additionally, clicking on an artist’s address will open Google maps, for extra help with directions.
“It probably won’t be a big surprise if I tell you that the East Neuk has a thriving arts scene,” said ENOS committee member Dave Smith.
“The area attracts artists, not least because of its wealth of inspirational opportunities and surroundings. As well as the picturesque fishing villages and the beautiful countryside, there is the wonderful wildlife – there’s no better place to see puffins and other seabirds than the nearby Isle of May. Naturally, local views and nature inspire and figure strongly in the work of many local artists.
”ENOS is an art trail of over fifty talented local artists, whose summer weekends provide the ideal opportunity for art lovers to explore this beautiful corner of Fife. We have artists who are well-established locally and nationally, and others who are new to the East Neuk arts community, so there is lots for art lovers to discover, with a wide range of arts, crafts and design being exhibited.
“The East Neuk villages are always a great destination for lovers of arts and crafts, but there’s no better time to visit than when the East Neuk artists open their doors …”
The East Neuk Open Studios brochure is now available throughout the East Neuk, in cafes, galleries and shops. It is also available online on the East Neuk Open Studios website, where visitors will also find lots more information about the artists and examples of their work. As in previous years, the weekends coincide with the East Neuk Festival that runs from 26 – 30 June, and some ENOS artists also exhibit throughout the week – details are in the brochure and online.
