East Neuk Open Studios (ENOS) is an art trail featuring talented artists, designers and makers who live and work in the villages of the East Neuk. For two weekends at the end of June, they throw open their studio doors to welcome visitors and to demonstrate and talk about their work.
The list of participants includes several well-known artists who have exhibited internationally, as well as those with an eye on future fame. Artists are delighted to chat and answer questions, and there’s always an exciting range of paintings, textiles, prints, jewellery, illustrations, cards, photographs, metalwork and stained glass available to view and to buy.
“The golden beaches, birdlife, terracotta roofs, cobbled streets and the many colourful wee harbours are my main inspiration for painting at the moment,” said Crail artist Philippa Mitchell.
“I have participated in three East Neuk Open Studios and really enjoy showing my art to interested visitors from all over, who treat it like a treasure trail following our red balloons and handy map from studio to studio – each artist with a unique style in a different house, shed, hall or home.”
The ENOS trail stretches from Lower Largo to Crail, via Colinsburgh, Kilconquhar, St Monans, Pittenweem, Ardross, Kellie, and Cellardyke. The studios are all listed in a printed directory and online on the ENOS website – www.eastneukopenstudios.org – which has full details about directions, parking and special events; and when you are touring, you can also look out for the red balloons and ENOS signs that will highlight each artist’s Open Studio.
