Angela Learoyd

Two themes are discernible in my jewellery – textured and formed silver combined with interesting and unusual semi-precious gemstones. The combination of these elements gives my work its signature design aesthetic.

I often start with the stone itself and this informs my design process. Experimenting with textures on silver allows me to echo the markings of the stone. My favourite texturing techniques are hammering and roll printing.

I use silver sheet, tube and wire to form my shapes. The metalsmithing techniques I use are doming, swaging, press forming and corrugation, which allow me to produce three dimensional, sculptural shapes.

My aesthetic is modern and bold with simple clean lines. My aim is for my jewellery to make an understated statement.

I studied Jewellery Design, Production and Business Management, as a mature student, at Fife College.
