Carol Nowak

Drawing is the heart of Carol’s practice. She draws from the landscape but does not call herself a landscape artist. Engaging in this process encourages one to explore and connect with the hands, the eye, and the mind of both the artist and the viewer. Carol is a mark maker and a synthesizer of information. She works with simple materials, paper, chalk, natural inks and watercolors to create visual depth and atmosphere. Carol looks for the expression of place to reveal itself.

Carol has been a practicing artist for over 50 years, has taught design at the University of Oregon and Drexel University in the States and lead artists workshops with the Glasgow School of Art and Hospitalfield house in Arbroath before moving to work in the design industry. In 2022 she moved with her husband from Philadelphia USA to Cellardyke Scotland.
